The songs she wrote were composed before she learned to write or read. The guitar that she first received was presented by her mother when she was eight. She started singing at the Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. In the following the year that Gold Band Records was a small independent record label. The singer established a name on the local circuit while at high school, but always dreamed of having a bigger stage. After graduating from the high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Her first charting records for Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. Porter Wagoner's syndicated tv show was in need of the services of a new singer by the time. Parton was a part of the Grand Ole Opry 1969 after contracting to RCA Records. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974 as her solo releases such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene had begun charting their collaborative efforts.
